Make a Plan to Stay Well
Positive Living Is in Your Hands
The hard part is over. You've taken steps to manage your diabetic nerve pain. Next, you owe it to yourself to live well. You still may feel throbbing, shooting, or stabbing pain at times, and it may be difficult to manage your pain. But it is important to realize that Cymbalta can help manage these painful symptoms.
Complications related to diabetes can reduce blood flow to your feet, depriving your feet of oxygen and nutrients; blisters, sores, and cuts may not heal as quickly.
Here are some tips to help prevent foot problems often associated with DNP:
- Cleaning your feet daily using warm—not hot—water and a gentle soap. Carefully dry your feet, including between your toes, with a soft towel
- Check your feet daily for signs of irritation or injury. If you cannot see parts of your feet clearly, such as your soles, ask someone to help you. Let your healthcare provider know if anything is bothering you or looks infected
- Make sure to wear shoes or slippers to prevent foot injuries, and always wear shoes that fit properly
Take Your Medicine
If you have diabetes, you may already be taking a number of medicines, and you may be concerned about adding another one. Be sure to tell your healthcare professional about all your medications, including prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and any herbal or health supplements.
